WOUNDS AUSTRALIA NATIONAL CONFERENCE - 26 October 2018
INNOVATION TANK AWARD - REUSABLE TOTAL CONTACT ORTHOTIC
Late in 2017, Wounds Australia called for Abstracts for ideas or prototypes for the following:
* a new healing technology
* a new wound care service
* a new patient or clinician education resource
* or something "out of the box".
The five hundred word Abstract detailing the innovation had to be submitted by the beginning of March this year. At the beginning of May, the five successful submissions would be announced and their authors would need to present their innovation at the Wounds Australia National Conference in Adelaide in October. There were four chosen who were worthy of consideration and Allan's Abstract was one of those. His idea was a new way of dealing with foot ulcers which are particularly prevalent in Diabetic patients.
On Friday 26 October, Allan presented his pitch at the conference and very excitedly, he won the Wounds Australia, inaugural Innovation Tank Award which includes $5,000 to assist in the development of his idea which will also include a small study of patients who will trial the device. Allan and Karly will attend the next Wounds Australia National Conference in November 2020 and provide a report regarding the outcomes of this innovation. It is very exciting news!
Allan and Karly will now work with the High Risk Foot Clinic at the Canberra Hospital and take a number of patients who will benefit from this innovative idea. We'll keep you posted!
